Vermont Senior Photos: A Guide to Planning Your Session
Senior year moves quickly. Planning Vermont senior photos gives you a chance to celebrate who you are right now, before graduation brings a new chapter. At B. Farnum Photography, I help seniors plan a session that feels relaxed, personal, and true to them—with guidance on timing, outfits, locations, and what to expect.
You don’t need to know how to pose or arrive with every detail figured out. We’ll talk through what matters to you and make a plan together.
When Should You Book Senior Photos in Vermont?
Fall is a popular time for Vermont senior photos, especially for seniors who love autumn colors. Since many people want a fall date, booking several months ahead gives you a better chance of finding a session time that works for your schedule.
Spring and summer can be lovely choices, too. Green landscapes, longer evenings, and warmer weather offer a different look—and may give you more flexibility when choosing a date. If you need photos for a yearbook, announcement, or graduation gift, check your school’s deadline before selecting your session date.
What time of day is best for senior photos?
The sun is often softer in the early morning or later in the day. I’ll recommend a start time based on the season, weather, and location so we can make the most of the available light. You don’t have to figure that out on your own.

How to Choose a Vermont Location
The right setting should feel comfortable and reflect the look you want for your photos. Vermont offers a range of backdrops, from open landscapes and wooded paths to lakeside views and more built-up surroundings. We’ll choose a location that suits your style and makes sense for the session.
Consider what you want your photos to feel like: outdoorsy, classic, colorful, simple, or a mix. If you have a place in mind, share it when you inquire. We can also talk through location ideas together. For state park settings, check the Vermont State Parks for information about parks and visitor details.
What to Wear for Your Senior Photo Session
Choose clothes that feel like you and fit well. A favorite outfit can help you feel more at ease, and bringing another look can add variety to your gallery. The number of outfit changes depends on the session you book, so we’ll plan ahead for the time available.
A few simple ways to prepare:
- Hang outfits ahead of time to help prevent wrinkles.
- Bring shoes that work with each outfit and the location.
- Choose colors that stand out from the background without competing with it.
- Keep accessories comfortable and true to your personal style.
- Avoid clothing that needs frequent adjusting, unless you love it enough to make it worthwhile.
You don’t need to follow a strict set of rules. The goal is for your Vermont senior photos to look like you—not like someone else’s idea of what a senior should wear.
Should you bring more than one outfit?
Yes. Bringing a few outfit options gives your senior photos variety and lets you show different sides of your style. Choose looks that feel distinct—perhaps one casual outfit and one that’s a little more dressed up.
If you’d like to change into more than two outfits, I recommend booking a two-hour session. That gives us enough time for outfit changes and photos in each look, so you can capture the variety you’re hoping for without feeling rushed.

Feeling Comfortable in Front of the Camera
It’s normal to feel nervous before a photo session, especially if you haven’t had one before. You don’t need to arrive knowing how to pose. I’ll offer direction throughout the session and give you time to settle in.
We’ll keep things conversational, take breaks when useful, and make room for natural expressions. You can also bring a family member or friend for support. Let me know beforehand so we can plan for a comfortable session.
What if you feel camera-shy?
Tell me. That helps me guide the session at a pace that feels comfortable. A few minutes to chat and get used to being in front of the camera can make a big difference. You’re not expected to perform or act like someone else.
What If It Rains?
Vermont weather can change, so it’s helpful to have a flexible plan. If rain is in the forecast, we’ll talk about the conditions and decide whether to adjust the timing or reschedule. I’ll be in touch as the session date approaches so you know what to expect.

Can Family Be Included in Senior Photos?
Senior year is a milestone for families, too. If you’d like a few photos with parents, siblings, or other loved ones, mention that when you inquire. We can talk about whether it fits your session plan and set aside time for those photos.
What to Expect When You Book
When you reach out, share your preferred timing, any school deadlines, and what you hope your photos will feel like. You can also tell me about outfit ideas, interests you’d like to include, and any questions you have.
I’ll help you plan the details, including the location and session timing. Session length and outfit changes depend on the option you select, so we’ll confirm those details before your date. After the session, you’ll be able to review your finished images and choose the options available for your collection.
